Artist Focus: Ann Kornuta “AnnK”

I’d like to do some spotlight posts on artists who either create game artwork or art inspired by games.

I’ve had this wonderful image of Ms Pac-Man on an old hard drive for years, and I recently went and looked up the artist Ann Kornuta. I’m not sure where I originally found the image, but after following a lot of old links on Google, I discovered her amazing blog where she documents her love of retro gaming and posts hilarious water colour character art and comics.  She also has a Patreon – a website where you can fund artist’s work.

Cute + Easy: Pandaland

I’d like to recommend some lesser known titles that are short, easy to play and adorable.

First up is Pandaland which I discovered while I was at university. Created by Svante Danielsson using Game Maker, a free program many people use to make short games, Pandaland is a simple platforming game with old school graphics and a cute soundtrack.

The game is set in Södermalm, where you play as “indie pop girl” Amanda Panda who tries to save her friends from an evil lizard. Your enemies are “tanned upper-class brats from Östermalm” who you defeat by throwing fruits at them. Your own health is  replenished with various items, including cake, beer and iPods.

Unfortunately the official website is down but you can download it free here:
